Frequently Asked Questions

What time can I check-in and out?

Check-in time is 3pm on the day of your arrival. We ask that you check out by 10am on departure day, to give our cleaners time to prepare the property for our next guests.

Occasionally, we can accommodate early arrival/late departures requests, if we do not have back-to-back bookings. This is usually only possible in off-peak periods, but we are happy to help whenever we can.

How do I get the keys?

Our properties have a key safe. The Key Safe is located by the front door at the Belfry & Steeple and by the side door in the car port at The Lantern. The combination changes regularly, so we will send you the code a few days prior to your arrival date.

What do I need to bring?

We’ve tried to think of everything to create a home away from home. So you shouldn’t need to bring too many provisions with you. Please click the following links to see what’s included in each apartment:

Is there parking?

The Steeple & Belfry
There is on-street parking available in front of the Steeple & Belfry. We provide visitor parking scratchcards for the duration of your stay, which you’ll find on the coffee table.

On the day of your arrival, please use the parking disc provided, rather than the scratchcard. This gives you three hours’ free parking – simply set the disc to the time you arrive and place it on your dashboard. As you’ll typically be checking in after 3pm, and parking restrictions end at 5pm, this should cover you for that time. Just make sure the scratchcard is in place by 9am this next morning.

The Lantern
The Lantern has one private off-street parking space. If you require additional spaces, we provide visitor parking scratchcards that allow you to park on the street outside the property for the duration of your stay.

How do I validate the parking scratchcard?

Please read the instructions carefully. There are also instructions printed on the reverse side of the parking scratchcard.

  • Scratch off the panels to indicate the day, month and year of arrival. Also complete the registration number on the front of the scratchcard, and the name of the holiday accommodation being visited.
  • Only the date of arrival should be scratched off the permit. If the permit is to be used over four days (yellow scratchcard), the Civil Enforcement Officer will see it is still valid when the arrival date is scratched off.
  • If more than one date is scratched off the permit, it becomes invalid and the vehicle is liable to being issued with a Penalty Charge Notice.
  • The scratchcard must be clearly displayed in a prominent position so that all sections are visible to a Civil Enforcement Officer.
  • Scratchcards are not valid in any of the Council’s off street pay and display car parks, marked disabled bays or loading bays. The scratchcard is only valid in the zone indicated on the front of the permit.

Can you accommodate additional children?

Upon request we can provide an additional child’s bed in one of the bedrooms for £25 per stay. Please let us know if this will be required at the time of booking.

Which bus services and taxis can I use?

The Steeple & Belfry
A bus service into the town centre runs Monday to Friday from 9.20am – 2.20pm hourly. There isn’t a marked bus stop, but if you walk right across the road, opposite no.14 where there’s a break in the wall, you can catch the 4A bus (sometimes displayed as 4 on the bus) at twenty past the hour.

The last returning bus from St Thomas Street in the town centre is at 2.04pm.

The Lantern
The Service 12 bus runs from the railway station to Peasholm Park from 09.10am to 3.10pm Monday to Saturday. After Peasholm Park, the next stop is the new Alpamare waterpark before it does a circular back to the railway station via Scalby.

Taxis
Taxis in Scarborough are inexpensive and there are many companies:

Beeline: 01723 366666
Nippy: 01723 377377
Ramshill Taxis: 01723 377771
Station Taxis: 01723 366366 (located at railway station)
Scarborough Taxis: 0871 9761111 (for airport transfers)

Is there disabled access?

The Belfry and Steeple
Both the Belfry and The Steeple are elevated from the road. Each has approximately 10 steps and a pathway up to the front door. For this reason, they are not suitable for wheelchair access, or for persons with serious mobility issues.

Once in the apartments, everything is on one level, including the rear outdoor dining areas. Each property does have a rear elevated garden, which is again accessed by a set of stairs.

The Lantern
The Lantern front door and courtyard door is a single step above street level. The house has internal stairs with all bedrooms and bathrooms on the first floor. Access to the property via the car port door requires a single step down.

Is there wifi?

Yes. All properties have free high-speed wifi access. You will find password details in the welcome pack. (wifi is currently being installed at The Lantern August 2016 so please confirm availability)

Do I have to put out the bins?

As there are steps at the Steeple & Belfry, we will come and put out the bins on a Thursday evening. If you are staying at the Belfry, we would be grateful if you could return the empty bin to the side of the shed on Friday morning.

If you’re staying at the Lantern, please put out the bin on a Thursday evening – there is just one step – and return it to the courtyard on Friday morning.

Who do I call if there’s a problem?
